Protecting your plumbing in the cold weather:
Ensure that all your pipes are properly lagged, and that loft insulation is adequate. If the water tank is close to the ceiling, leave a gap in the insulation to provide for some heat for the tank.
If you are away for any extended period, set your heating to come on at a minimum temperature twice a day. Remember that, generally, the coldest part of the day is just before dawn.
